Tips & Hacks – The Equal Opportunities Question

“Equal Opportunity” is a stipulation that all people should be treated similarly, unhampered by artificial barriers or prejudices or preferences, except when particular distinctions can be explicitly justified. The aim according to this often complex and contested concept is that important jobs should go to those “most qualified”– person’s most likely to perform ably in a given task – and not go to persons for arbitrary or irrelevant reasons, such as circumstances of birth, religion, sex, ethnicity, race, caste, or involuntary personal attributes such as disability, age, gender, or sexual orientation.

In an interview scenario, would you know how to respond if you were asked the following questions?

“What kind of experience do you have working with people who have different needs, or come from different backgrounds to your own?”

“How would develop your commitment to foster diversity and understanding in this company, in order to benefit our customers?”

This career hack will assist you in understanding how to respond to questions, and when dealing with customers face to face. Ultimately, adopting an approach where you are more attuned to different customer requirements, can only be a good thing, not only for the numbers on your payslip, but for everyone involved!
