Skotizo is a demi-boss who can be fought solo that you can battle beneath the catacombs in Kourend. To unlock Skotizo it is necessary to sacrifice the entire Dark Totem, which you can build from three different totem pieces that are dropped by all monsters through the Catacombs. It may take time to gather all three pieces, therefore it’s impossible to ‘farm’ Skotizo in the same way as other solo bosses like Zulrah or Vorkath however, he does however, have high-quality drops. He’s also the only boss to have 100% of the time drop rates in Clue Scrolls.
The basic strategy for Skotizo is to simply gear to maximize DPS while achieving a balance of melee and magic defense. Skotizo will mostly use melee attack when within melee distance , but will sometimes use magic attacks. This is why you must pray for melee whenever you’re within melee distance.
Skotizo is able to activate periodically the Awakened Altars that are located to the left, South West, East and the West side in the area. For each Altar that is active, Skotizo will have increased defence. Maxed players might be able to leave the 4 Awakened Altars in active use and be able to penetrate Skotizo’s defence . However, when you do not have 90+ stats it is recommended to not allow more than 2 Altars in active status at the same time.
If you’re running around the room trying to get at the Altar, it is best to change your prayers to shield from magic , so that you don’t take injury from Skotizo’s magic attacks.
Like all demons Skotizo is prone to the effects from demonbane guns. If you are currently on the black or higher demon job, Skotizo can be also susceptible to Black Slayer mask benefits.
Generally, the best method to combat Skotizo is to use Arclight and wear armour that has high Magic Defence (e.g. black dragonhide armor) while having Protect from Melee on, meaning that the only cause of damage is from the Magic attacks of Skotizo. If the person can afford one, a one with a Twisted Bow is the most effective weapon for Skotizo, and it can be used at range while praying Protect from Magic to do the least amount of harm. A Dragon warhammer can also be useful in combat due to its special effect, but people who don’t own one can utilize its Arclight special attack for similar results.
At any point during the battle Skotizo will randomly activate Awakened Altars in the north east, south and west central parts inside the rooms. These Altars each have 100 Hitpoints, each, boost their defense and provide the effect of reducing damage when activated. It is recommended to eliminate them when they are in the presence of two or more since they can dramatically boost its defence and reduce the amount of damage to up to 60 percent with Arclight and up to 100% with other weapons (15 25 and% per tower respectively). If traveling to disarm the Awakened Altars, players should temporarily switch to Protect from Magic, as Skotizo does not close in to make melee attacks. Arclight instantly disables the Altars with one strike regardless of the character’s statistics or equipment. This effect will not extend to the demonbane spells found in the Arceuus spellbook. Potions for stamina are advised as it is necessary to travel around to disarm the Altars. Be aware that having an Arclight installed or within the inventory of a player can cause more altars to appear. This is why players who want to cut down on stamina potions or who prefer to run less may not be able to make use of the Arclight. Toxic blowpipes are an excellent weapon against the altars in case the player is not equipped with Arclight.
When Skotizo’s energy is depleted it will summon three demon spawns that have reanimated to help it. Skotizo could also summon a Dark Ankou to aid it in some circumstances. If the player is using Protect from Melee and they are not in danger, they pose no threat. If the minions are slain, Skotizo may summon them back. As such, fighting the minions will not yield any benefits therefore the player should focus only on Skotizo and the Altars.
