You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and in terms of your cover letter you have a maximum of 30 seconds to make that impression. Why? The person reading your cover letter wants to roll it into a ball, throw it in the bin, and get on with their day. They’re burnt out and have a stack of applications on their desk.
They’re an expert at reading CV’s/resumes and they’ve seen all the tricks. It’s your job to construct a cover letter that throws a road block in front of them and stops them in their tracks! Then, when they’ve switched off autopilot for this brief moment, you stop them again! And so it goes on.
