In this lecture Jonathan discusses the history of pedagogy (teaching styles) and the application and impact of such methodologies on western education systems and the wider economy. He also talks about the consequences and dangers of continuing to apply the same pedagogy to the current and the next generation of students who are due to move through the education system in the coming years. These students face a very different reality to previous generations upon leaving a closed education system, and entering the world of work.
Students will be competing globally with autonomous cyber systems, robots, artificial intelligence and machines that can learn and think for themselves. A completely different understanding of the world will be required as we enter the 4th industrial age, commonly referred to as Industry 4.0. It’s vital that the education system pedagogy keeps pace so that humans can play a role and make meaningful contributions.
